I spend a lot of time looking for vegan recipes for desserts and I think I came up with a great recipe for chocolate cake by piecing together elements of several vegan brownie recipes. It is quick and easy. I saw, in Martha Stewart Living, a chocolate cake with powdered sugar on top stenciled with a pretty doily. I'm practicing that, so I'll be experimenting with variations of this recipe this week.

regarding my previous post:

i posted that before clicking the link, and had no intention of clicking the link at all. but then i thought it was ridiculous to post that, especially without clicking the link. so i clicked it, and it was disturbing. but i don't think posting that message over and over is an answer to anything. in fact, i think that her purpose of killing the animals is a better one than that of say, wilsons leather- i mean she could be making a valid statement (though sick & vexatious & arguably unworthy of the life of an innocent animal) and she's not killing nearly as many animals. i think we're bothered by this mostly because it is one person, not some big corporation, and she is displaying it in a way that, first of all, seems to be quite a scream for attention and secondly, deceives us with faces that look like they might twitch or blink at any moment, faces that appear to be full of life, that are familiar and real and beautiful. it is completely identifiable, not dyed and stretched and smoothed and treated until it becomes just a shoe or a jacket, completely unreminescent of it's origin - it's a corpse (or, part of one).
that said, i think the project itself has a good message. i don't believe the artist is really trying to make a statement at all, though.. the finger puppet idea is ENTIRELY TOO LOUD and does not even make a statement, it seems obvious to me that her motives have nothing to do with self-analyzation, morality, hypocracy - anything that could possibly be the purpose of the project! this girl is not someone i would like to get to know. she just wants people to know her name, hate her or love her, never forget her. bleh

and to tell the truth, i wish i wouldn't have given all this attention to the artist at all.
and i wish you wouldn't either.

post-script: i'm entirely disregarding the statements about the beating a cat to death with a stick and all that, i have found no evidence of that.

There's an artist, Nathalia Edenmont, who kills cats, mice, doves, rabbits, and other animals, mutilates their bodies, and then takes their photographs. She's on exhibit, among other places, at the Wetterling Gallery in Sweden. She has taken the top halves of five white mice and made them into finger puppets. She beat a cat to death with a stick. And this is called art. This is not only inhumane, but morally reprehensible.

i'm wanting to paint my room ivory. so ladylike and also, neutral! i'll leave the woodwork white and pick a different shade for the curtains. i'll paint the branches (that i use to hold up my curtains) black. i'm really loving black, ivory and red right now. dramatic! i've been wearing red lipstick of late.

stresssss.

first of all, i'm constantly ashamed of my drunken behavior. i lose all class. i wish i could drink without getting wasted. i want to work on that. i'm taking a six-hour test tomorrow for work and if i don't pass (at least 85%), i lose my job. i'm moving this week (unless i do in fact lose my job). i painted my room bright pink and now i'm wishing wishing wishing i had painted it red. my room is a mess, my car is a mess, i haven't painted my dresser yet, i am going to lose my health insurance.....

i've decided to go sort of retro-modern, 1960's-ish with my room. there's some stuff at target that would work nicely. walls will be light blue, one a milky orange. i'm about to go to goodwill to pick up this dresser that i'm going to turn into a dresser/desk. i'm excited about all of this. i can't afford any of it.

good news is, i'll be making way more money at my new job than i thought i would. and so far, i love it.

tomorrow i see !!!
